What You Can Do Right Now

I don’t even need to say what’s distracting all of us right now.

But what I do need to say is this:

To feel better, to improve your outer and inner strength, to bolster your immunity, consider the following:

  • Eating well
  • Staying out of public venues
  • Keeping yourself hydrated
  • Maintaining community
  • Exercising to keep your anxiety low
  • Writing

Writing?

Yes.

For its steadfast ability to calm us when we’re in upset.

For the many ways it helps us learn how to pivot when needed in this societal storm.

For its value as an antidote to the fear and anxiety we all feel.

For the normalcy it brings to our upset lives.

For the way we can unload our woes onto the page so they don’t ricochet in our heads like a tango of uncertainty.

Writing now will advance all of our causes-personal and business-so when we come out the other side (it will be different, but there will be another side) we are fully formed mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, to go on with our lives in the best possible ways.

And to do that-to keep yourself engaged and not contracted-write.

Here are a few things you can do right now:

  • Search online for writing prompts-write to the ones that resonate with you.
  • Bookmark a few prompt sites so you can return to them again and again.
  • Share your work-Register an account on Medium.com and write about what ails you, but what also brings you the best of everything. What would those topics be?
  • Engage in writing daily. Short 15-minute sprints can take you from overwhelm and fear into deep feelings of satisfaction and wholeness
  • Form a writing group for sharing your work. Yes, you can share what’s going on now, but I recommend you put the pandemic in context and include topics about what is good about what’s going on. Really. There’s always something positive that happens when something bad takes place.
  • Reach out and invite people who normally don’t write, to write with you. You may be responsible for showing people what beauty and flow writing provides.

What are you going to write, right now?
